Luxury Holidays in Galle
Historic fort town on the sunny south coast
A gateway to the beautiful south coast, Galle boasts a plethora of attractions, both in town and nearby. The most popular is the large and largely unchanged Dutch fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the days when the Portuguese, Dutch and British controlled the seas.
Further adding to the 300-year-old colonial feel is the Dutch church, along with spectacular Hindu and Buddhist temples. Just a little further down the idyllic golden coastline sits the village of Ahangama, famous for its stilt fishermen – a visual symbol of this part of Sri Lanka. Watch them in the waves as the sun sets over this beautiful area before returning to Galle, or alternately nearby Koggala, for stunning bird-watching.
