Luxury Holidays in Sigiriya

Spectacular ancient rock fortress

One of Sri Lanka’s most iconic and incredible sights, the ancient city of Sigiriya is based around the majestic Lion Rock – a tall promontory towering over the surrounding countryside. Originally used as a stone monastery, the castle was built in the 5th Century by King Kasyapa, who also added beautiful frescoes, water-filled moats and lush gardens – the remains of which can still be seen today.

As you climb through the giant paws of a stone lion – all that remain of a spectacular ancient entrance – you’ll feel like you’re stepping into a time tunnel. Ascending up the rock face past the frescoes to reach the summit, you’ll be greeted by the incredible view, making Sigiriya a must for any visitor.
